[Reporter Cai Yunrong/Yilan Report] A man surnamed Wei, a hospital cleaner in Yilan County, insulted a female colleague in September last year, "You don't need to wipe your dead face", and was sued by the female colleague.

The Yilan District Court ruled that the cleaning staff's actions were enough to demean the reputation of their colleagues and committed the crime of public insult. They were fined 5,000 yuan.

The verdict pointed out that Wei Nan was dissatisfied with his female colleague because of a trivial matter. When he was cleaning the elevator door in the hospital last September, he heard the female colleague ask another person to refill the alcohol. The female colleague believed that her reputation was damaged and reported the case to the police.

Wei Nan argued that what he meant at the time was that the female colleague sprayed alcohol like a squash face, and denied the crime; but according to the investigation, the female colleague's complaint was detailed and there were witnesses to testify, so the court did not accept Wei Nan's statement.

The judge believed that it was really wrong for Wei Nan to insult a female colleague with a "dead face" outside the hospital elevator, which can be seen by an unspecified majority of people, and derogate the female colleague's personal dignity, reputation and social evaluation. After committing the crime, he still denied the crime. So far, the female colleague has not been compensated for the damage suffered, and the fine is 5,000 yuan. If she is subject to hard labor, 1,000 yuan will be converted into 1 day.
