, archaeologists found a statue of a smiling sphinx made of lime in the remains of an ancient temple.

The BBC writes about it.

The artifact was discovered in a two-level tomb in Qena province, 450 km south of Cairo.

Scientists believe that the sphinx with a smiling face and two dimples on the cheeks symbolizes the Roman emperor Claudius.

It is much smaller than the world-famous Sphinx in the Pyramids of Giza, which is 20 meters high.

Currently, archaeologists are studying the markings on the stone slab, which can tell more about this statue.

Tiberius Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus

was the emperor of the Julius-Claudius dynasty in 41-54.

Earlier it became known that a secret 9-meter long corridor was found

in

the Great Pyramid of Giza, which is also called the Pyramid of Cheops.

This was confirmed by the staff of the Department of Egyptian Antiquities.

This may lead to new discoveries.
