It is not necessary to draw premature conclusions about who is responsible for undermining the Nord Stream-1 and Nord Stream-2 gas pipelines.
The attack could have been an operation "under a foreign flag" in order to later accuse Ukraine of this crime.
This was stated by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius in an interview with Deutschlandfunk.
According to him, it is necessary to wait for the conclusions of the investigation to talk about the possible consequences.
Pistorius said the possibility that it could have been "an operation under a foreign flag, organized to blame Ukraine" is "just as high".
"Perhaps it was a false flag operation, organized in order to blame Ukraine, such an option was also mentioned in media reports," he said.
The German minister said that neighboring countries and NATO should do everything possible to protect critical infrastructure under water as well.
We will remind, at the end of September 2022, explosions occurred on the Nord Stream-1 and Nord Stream-2 gas pipelines,
which led to a gas leak.
At the time, many officials declared Russia's involvement in the incident.
Already on December 21, 2022, The Washington Post wrote that some Western officials
doubted the Kremlin's involvement
.
On March 7, 2023, The New York Times, citing sources and intelligence data, wrote that the alleged explosions on the Russian "Nord Streams" could have been staged by a
pro-Ukrainian group of "Putin's opponents".
It allegedly included Russians and Ukrainians.
In his turn, the advisor to the head of the OP Mykhailo Podolyak assured that
Ukraine has nothing to do with the explosions at the Nord Streams.
The intelligence agencies of Europe and the United States
did not intercept any communications of Russian or Ukrainian officials
that would allow them to prove their involvement in blowing up the Nord Stream gas pipelines.
There is also other intelligence that points to the possible involvement of Russia.
