Turkey alone has suffered a loss of more than $100 billion due to the devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria last month.

The United Nations gave this information on Tuesday.

"It is already clear that more than $100 billion has been lost in Turkey alone," Louis Vinton of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) told reporters via video link from Gaziantep in Turkey.

There was an earthquake of 7.8 magnitude on 6 February in Turkey and Syria.

After this, aftershocks were felt several times.

Earthquake has killed more than 45000 people in Turkey.

While 5000 people have lost their lives in the neighboring country Syria.

The World Bank last week estimated that the devastating earthquake caused more than $34 billion in damage in Turkey.

However, Louis Vinton of the UNDP said that the Turkish government, with support from the UNDP, the World Bank and the European Union, had estimated much higher losses.

"Preliminary calculations to date make it clear that the loss figure presented by the government and supported by three international partners estimates will exceed $100 billion," he said. 

UNDP's Louis Vinton said, 'Once the damage data is clear, it will be presented at the Recovery and Reconstruction Donor Conference in Brussels next week.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 26 million people in both countries need help.

For the first time in the last 75 years, WHO is conducting a rescue operation on such a large scale.

According to the Washington Post report, 6,040 aftershocks have occurred in 11 states of Turkey in the first two weeks of February.

These areas are being called disaster zones.

Out of 6 thousand, 40 aftershocks were of 5 to 6 intensity.

While one was of 6.6 magnitude.

Turkey's situation is so bad that more than one lakh buildings have been destroyed here.

Officials are advising people to stay away from them.
