[Reporter Chen Wenchan/Kaohsiung Report] The country's largest energy storage field will be located in Fengshan District, the most populous city in Kaohsiung City. Zhenbeili will hold an explanation meeting today, chaired by Liao Taixiang, director of the Municipal Bureau of Economic Development. The site is adjacent to a residential area, and the construction process was not open and transparent, which may endanger local life and property safety. At the request of Zhenbei District Chief Zhao Zhicheng, it was decided to suspend the development. On April 9, the hearing was held on the premise of withdrawing the case.

The city government stated that it asked the Ministry of Economic Affairs to withdraw the case and return it to clarify the concerns of the public before accepting the application for review.

Sandi Group will build the country's largest 170MW energy storage field in Niuchaopu, Fengshan District, with a development area of 6,000 pings, 85 battery cabinets will be installed, and pipelines will be buried for more than 1 kilometer and 1.3 meters deep, and will be connected to Taipower Meishan Substation in parallel.

The energy storage field is only 80 meters away from more than 5,800 households in Zhenbeili, and there is a gas station about 40 meters away, but local residents have not obtained consent. Not only the neighboring towns such as Zhenbei signed a petition to oppose it, but also the Fengshan district chief association.

Zhenbeili held a briefing at Zhenbei Elementary School today. The crowd was crowded with 400 people. Residents held banners saying "Profiters make money, residents suffer", "Protect my home and make my life safe", "The government is incompetent and ignores public opinion" , signboards, etc., showing their determination to oppose to the end; legislator Xu Zhijie, councilors Huang Jie, Zhang Hanzhong, Li Yajing, Liu Delin and others all attended the scene to support the people in Li.

District chief Zhao Zhicheng bombarded that the energy storage field was not approved by the local government and was too close to the houses, so the government agreed to set it up?

In case of a fire, how to extinguish the fire, will it produce toxic dioxins?

The relevant government regulations are not strict enough, but the residents are required to bear the risk, and the city government is not even clear about the competent authority, and is unwilling to even assist the local government to hold a briefing session, requiring the city government to strictly control the situation.

People in Li shouted "Fengshan is our home", questioning the safety of the energy storage field, worrying that electromagnetic waves and radiation will affect their health. In case of fire or explosion, toxic gas may be produced, and how can the local fire-fighting capacity bear the power of a 170MW explosion? The south-to-north power transmission should not be borne by Fengshan people. They oppose setting it up in a densely populated area, which may endanger the safety of life and property. They demand that the government evacuate the energy storage field and threaten to fight to the end.

The three-site group stated that the Energy Bureau had approved it in December 2011. Originally, construction was to start at the end of February this year, and local concerns would be resolved first. There is currently no expansion plan for the site.
