The ex-commander of the US Army in Europe, retired Lt. General Ben Godges, explained why the West is so afraid of the collapse of Russia, and whether Moscow will use nuclear weapons.

Godges told about this in an interview with "1+1" journalist Andrii Tsaplienko.

"They (in the West - ed.) are afraid that Russia may use its nuclear weapons. And

if Russia disintegrates, these weapons may end up in the hands of those people whom the West would not like to see

as the owners of such weapons. But don't tell me , who believe in Western values, if they are not ready to defend them," the lieutenant general emphasized.

He is convinced that Russia will not dare to launch a nuclear strike, because he understands the consequences well.

"Even though Russia has thousands of nuclear weapons,

I don't think they're going to use them.

They're not going to give them any advantage on the battlefield. And in my view, Russia will be dealing with catastrophic consequences if they use their arsenal. I I think the Russians know about all this," Godges said.

"We have to tell everyone around Putin, all the elites: "You, you, you,

you will all be hanged for war crimes

, as soon as the international tribunal starts working.

You will be responsible." We should talk about it publicly," the ex-commander of the US military emphasized.

It will be recalled that at the end of February, Russian President Vladimir Putin once again resorted to nuclear threats.

Thus, he announced the suspension of the state's participation in the Treaty on Strategic Offensive Weapons and declared readiness to resume nuclear weapons tests.

However, the head of the GUR of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, is convinced that Russia will not use nuclear weapons.

Otherwise, it will lead to consequences and the aggressor will receive a response from other states.

It should be noted that, according to Oleksiy Danilov, Secretary of the National Security Council, Russia will cease to exist within its current limits and will collapse in the near future.

"Free Ichkeria, Tatarstan, Dagestan" will be formed on its territory.
