The passenger airliner, which was flying Istanbul-Barcelona, urgently returned to the airport from which it took off, because the sensors that detected an unpleasant smell were triggered.

As it turned out, the culprit of the stench was the tropical fruit durian in the cargo compartment of the plane.

This is reported by the Turkish publication TRT Haber.

The pilot decided to return to Istanbul airport when the plane was over Bulgarian airspace.

During examinations carried out in the cargo compartment, it was found that the activation of the sensors was caused by a tropical fruit called durian, which emits a heavy smell when ripe.

After that, the passengers took another plane to Barcelona.

Durian, one of the fruits of Southeast Asia, has a pleasant taste, but when ripe it produces an odor that has been described as a mixture of the stench of rotten onions, turpentine and raw sewage.

A persistent smell can persist for several days.

Because of this, some hotels and public transport services in Southeast Asia prohibit these fruits.

We will remind you that during the Gol Airlines flight from Salvador to the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo, crazy passions played out in the cabin of the plane, surpassing the emotions of Latin American TV series.

Fifteen women beat each other and pulled their hair, and the crew tried in vain to separate them.
