The State of Emergency will govern for 60 days in 56 provinces in the regions of Ancash, Cajamarca, La Libertad, Lambayeque, Lima, Piura and Tumbes.

Due to the heavy rains in various regions in the north of the country,

the Peruvian Government decreed a State of Emergency on Friday for at least 60 days

with the aim of executing measures and actions that guarantee the protection of citizens in the face of intense downpours.

The decree was signed by the designated president, Dina Boluarte, and endorsed by the president of the Council of Ministers, Luis Alberto Otárola;

by the Minister of Defense, Jorge Chávez Cresta, and the heads of the Agrarian Development and Irrigation, Development and Social Inclusion, Education, Interior, Women and Vulnerable Populations, Health, Transport and Communications, and Housing, Construction and Sanitation sectors.

The measure will govern more than 230 districts belonging to 56 provinces in the regions of Ancash, Cajamarca, La Libertad, Lambayeque, Lima, Piura and Tumbes, which are at risk due to possible river flooding.

According to the decree, the regional governments of the 233 departments affected by the rains, as well as the local governments involved, with the collaboration of various sectors of the State, will execute actions that reduce the risk condition with rapid responses to address the situation.

The measures and actions must be related between the interventions of the entities and the event;

In addition, they may be modified according to the needs and security elements that arise during its execution.

On February 28, the Minister of Defense, Jorge Chávez, proposed before the Council of Ministers to declare a State of Emergency in the areas affected by the rains in the Piura region, with the aim of articulating the support of the different sectors of the State .
