"While they tried, above all in the Republic of Bulgaria, to put bilateral relations in a historical context, we found a solution to put these relations on the basis of communication between two communities - the majority of the Macedonian people and the minority Bulgarian community, which coexist normally in the Republic North Macedonia.

This is how the path of relations between the two peoples will be drawn," said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of North Macedonia, Buyar Osmani, in an interview with the "Racin" website, BTA reported.

In his words, "the inclusion of the Bulgarian minority" in the constitution of North Macedonia is important for two reasons - firstly, because it gives direction on how the relations between the two countries will be built in the long term, and secondly, because the change of the constitution is important in order to continue the negotiations country's EU membership process.

"We will have to reach a cross-party consensus, put aside the interests of everyday politics, sit down and analyze all the pros and cons of constitutional amendments."

And I assure you that both at the expert, political and any other level, the arguments "for" the constitutional changes will dominate, because they are in our interest", said Osmani.

The most important thing, according to Osmani, is that in the next elections in Bulgaria "finally there will be a political government" with which North Macedonia will have "normal political communication for future relations".

The absence of a political government allows "all those radical and conservative elements that politics suppresses by default" to find a cleared space to manifest their conservative and radical positions, which, according to Osmani, is currently being observed.

"What is happening is a classic theft of relations by certain political parties in Bulgaria in order to capitalize on the elections," Osmani pointed out.

In his words, however, in the conditions of an election campaign in Bulgaria, "there is elementary communication", and proof of this is the "consular talks between the two ministries of foreign affairs" held this week, which is the first more direct contact after the last cooling in relations between Bulgaria and North Macedonia.
