of three northeastern states

Tripura (Tripura elections results LIVE)

, Meghalaya (

) will be revealed today.

The counting of votes will start at 8 am.

A lot is at stake in these states for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is leading the NDA government at the Centre.

The election results in these states will give an indication of whether the BJP has strengthened its foothold in Tripura since wresting its bastion from the Left in 2018?

It will also be clear from the election results whether the ruling BJP of most of the North-Eastern states has been able to strengthen its inroads in Meghalaya and Nagaland, or whether the opposition has been able to make a dent in its influence.

Among the three northeastern states, all eyes are on Tripura as the right-wing party BJP registered a crucial victory in 2018 in Tripura, a long-standing Left bastion.

This was an event that changed the political tradition of this state.

This election is also significant because the traditional rivals Congress and the Left have joined hands for the first time to challenge the BJP in the elections to the 60-member state assembly.

In this fight between national parties, Pradyot Debbarma-led Tipra Motha is also in the fray in Tripura, which has emerged as an effective force in the politics of this state.

This party, which has influence among a large section of the tribal population, has put the traditional parties in trouble.

In the last election in Tripura, BJP won 36 seats and IPFT won eight seats.

After the demise of IPFT founder NC Debbarma, it is believed that the influence of the party has decreased.

In such a situation, the burden of getting majority is largely on the shoulders of BJP while its two main rivals have united.

In Tripura, a Left bastion for two decades, the BJP could not win a single seat in the 2013 elections.

But in 2018, the BJP captured power by taking a surprising lead and projected this victory as an ideological victory over its rivals. If the BJP loses here, it will be seen as a setback.

Even if Tripura has a relatively minor impact in the national political scenario.

In the assembly elections 2023, a triangular contest was seen in Tripura.

According to exit polls, BJP can repeat the historic victory of 2018 by winning 32 assembly seats.

The Left-Congress alliance may get 15 seats, while the Tipra Motha party led by Pradyot Debbarma is expected to win 12 seats.

Regional parties of both the states of Meghalaya and Nagaland remain big players in the politics there.

This time BJP launched a vigorous election campaign with all its big leaders including PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to increase its penetration in the states.

For the first time BJP is contesting on all 60 seats in Meghalaya.

The BJP has been accusing National People's Party leader and Chief Minister Conrad Sangma of running the country's most corrupt state government.

In Meghalaya, the BJP was a partner in the government led by Conrad Sangma but broke the alliance before the elections.

BJP hopes that its strength will increase in the assembly.

After the last election, there was a hung assembly and this time also a similar possibility is being expressed.

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the BJP's strategist for the northeastern region and chief minister of Assam, had met Sangma after the polls and indicated that the two parties could work together again.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma's National People's Party (NPP) may emerge as the single largest party in Meghalaya with 20 seats, while the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is also set to win 11 seats in the 60-member assembly, according to NDTV's poll of exit polls. can achieve.

According to the exit polls, the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are expected to win 6-6 seats, while 17 seats can go to other parties.

Another interesting aspect of these elections is that the Trinamool Congress led by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is also in the fray.

This ruling party of Bengal has also given full strength in these elections.

Its attempt is to project itself as a stronger rival against the BJP than the Congress.

Congress also launched a massive campaign in these states.

Rahul Gandhi had held a rally in Meghalaya.

Congress is trying to get back its lost influence.

In Nagaland BJP has again contested in alliance with NDPP.

According to the average of four different exit polls, the BJP and Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) alliance in Nagaland is likely to emerge victorious and retain power in the state.

The NDPP contested on 40 seats, while the BJP tried its luck on the remaining 20 seats.

The BJP has already won one seat, the Akuluto assembly seat, from where its sitting MLA Kazheto Kinimi was elected unopposed after his only rival withdrew from the race.
