[Reporter Wu Liangyi/Taipei Report] The local epidemic of Wuhan pneumonia (new coronavirus disease, COVID-19) continues. The Central Epidemic Command Center announced the latest virus sequencing results today, including local and overseas cases still with the Omicron mutant subtype "BA.2.75" is the main one.

From the perspective of local cases, four subtypes including BA.2.75, BA.5, BQ.1, and XBB have been detected.

Last week, 78 cases were sequenced, including 45 local cases and 33 imported cases.

Among the local cases, BA.2.75 still accounted for the majority, up to 30 cases (67%), BA.5 had 7 cases (16%), BQ.1 had 6 cases (13%), and XBB had 2 cases (4%) .

The subtype proportions of the variant strains in imported cases were BA.2.75 (36%), XBB (33%), BA.5 (12%), BQ.1 (12%), and BF.7 (6%).

Luo Yijun, spokesman of the command center, pointed out that among the XBB cases found abroad, 6 cases were XBB.1.5, including 2 cases in the United States, 1 case each in Japan, the Philippines, the United Arab Emirates, and Malaysia. Fortunately, no emerging mutant strains were detected. type.

According to the command center, the World Health Organization (WHO) pointed out on March 1 this year that the proportion of global recombinant mutant strains (including XBB. The proportion of BA.5 and its derivative variants (including BQ.x, BF.7) dropped to 31.8%, and the proportion of BA.2 and its derivative variants remained the same at about 13.7%.

At present, BA.5, BQ.1, XBB.1.5 and their derivative variants are mostly in the Western Pacific, Europe and America respectively, and there are co-circulation of different types of variants in most countries.

The WHO stated that BQ.1, BQ.1.1, BF.7, BA.2.75.2, CH.1.1, XBB and XBF and other mutant strains have better transmission and adaptability, and they must continue to be closely monitored. Existing evidence shows that they can cause serious diseases The virus has not increased significantly, and will continue to closely monitor the evolution and prevalence of international virus strains.

The command center emphasized that according to existing research, vaccination with next-generation vaccine supplements is still protective against emerging mutant strains such as BQ.1, BF.7, and XBB, and can reduce the risk of severe illness, hospitalization, or death caused by infection with COVID-19 .

The public is requested to complete the vaccination as soon as possible, and implement personal epidemic prevention measures such as frequent hand washing and wearing masks to gain protection.
