Each conscript must pass a military medical commission (MMC), which determines the fitness, unfitness or limited fitness of a conscript.

When determining the suitability or unfitness of a conscript, the VLK relies on the list of diseases set out in the Regulations on Military Medical Examination in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the presence of which exempts a conscript from military service.

According to this Regulation, men who have stomach ulcers may be declared unfit or limited fit for military service.

As lawyer Dmytro Donchak told, the question of suitability for military service with stomach diseases is determined by Article 53 of the Schedule of Diseases of Order No. 402.

The article contains two points with a list of diseases that determine whether men with these diseases can be mobilized — namely, point 53-a and 53-b.

Article 53-a defines

the list of diseases that exempt from military service

.

A person with such diseases is

excluded from military registration.

These are diseases such as:

  • peptic ulcer disease of the stomach and duodenum, complicated by penetration, stenosis of the pylorobulbar zone (retention of the contrast material in the stomach for more than 24 hours), which is accompanied by a decline in nutrition in the presence of contraindications to surgical treatment or refusal of it.

The list of diseases listed in Article 53b provides for

limited or complete unfitness for military service.

Point "b" includes:

  • peptic ulcer disease with ulcers that do not heal for a long time,

  • peptic ulcer complicated by bleeding with the development of post-hemorrhagic anemia or perforation (within 5 years after the specified complications),

  • peptic ulcer disease with frequent (two or more times a year) recurrences of ulcers requiring long-term inpatient treatment (more than two weeks),

  • duodenal ulcer with extrabulbar localization of the ulcer,

  • peptic ulcer disease of the stomach and duodenum with multiple (two or more) ulcers in the last 5 years,

  • peptic ulcer complicated by gross cicatricial deformation of the bulb of the duodenum with moderate violations of the evacuator-motor function.

The degree of unsuitability is determined individually.

It is most likely that when the above-mentioned diseases are detected, a person will be diagnosed with limited fitness.
