Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov met with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk within the framework of his participation in the 52nd session of the UN Human Rights Council.

According to the information provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to APA, during the meeting, the current agenda of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the UN in the field of human rights, the current regional situation, as well as issues surrounding the Lachin road were discussed.

Deputy Minister Elnur Mammadov noted with satisfaction the existence of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the UN in various fields, including the protection of human rights.

In this regard, it was stated that there are prospects for further expansion of cooperation.

Deputy Minister Elnur Mammadov also noted that Azerbaijan's peace and construction efforts are facing continuous political and military provocations by Armenia.

In this regard, in order to overshadow the legitimate protest of Azerbaijani civil society representatives around the Lachin road, it was stated that Armenia's alleged "blockade" of Armenian residents of Azerbaijan and the untruthful position that a "humanitarian crisis" has arisen in the region are calculated to mislead the international community.

It was emphasized that Armenian residents living in the region, like all citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan, are ready to ensure their safety.

During the meeting, opinions were exchanged on other issues of mutual interest.
