[Reporter Hong Ruiqin/Tainan Report] Lin'an Bridge, which invested 500 million yuan in new construction, will be demolished in early April. At that time, steel temporary bridges on both sides will be used instead of roads. The reconstruction project will be completed in nearly two years.

Lin'an Bridge is located on Zhonghua West Road (Taiwan Line 17). It is the main road bridge in Tainan's Anping and Central and Western Districts. It has been in use for 36 years.

The bridge was inspected and assessed in 2013, and the cap girder was cracked, which may cause the bridge to fall into danger. Although emergency reinforcements were made by the Public Works Bureau, there are still concerns about safety, and the current bridge bottom is too low, which also affects the passage of cruise ships on the Anping Canal.

After several on-site inspections by the central and local leaders, the Ministry of Communications finally agreed to fully subsidize the reconstruction of the bridge, and construction started in June of last year (2022).

Nanshi Public Works Bureau stated that in order to improve the structural safety of Lin’an Bridge and complete the canal cruise plan, the city government actively sought the reconstruction project of Lin’an Bridge from the Ministry of Communications, and finally received a full subsidy of about 500 million yuan for bridge reconstruction. However, due to the huge local traffic volume, In order to maintain the smooth flow of vehicles during the construction period, a steel temporary bridge was erected on both sides of the Lin'an Bridge to replace the road in the preliminary work, which is expected to be completed in late March.

The Public Works Bureau stated that after the relevant units confirm that the pipeline facilities have been relocated, it is expected that the steel bridges on both sides will be opened to traffic in early April, and the Lin'an Bridge will be closed simultaneously for bridge demolition and reconstruction. The construction period will be nearly two years.

The Public Works Bureau stated that in order to cope with the huge traffic flow brought by the peak hours of this road section, the steel bridge is used as an alternative road, and two-way traffic with three lanes is still maintained to reduce the traffic impact caused by construction.

According to the Public Works Bureau, after the reconstruction of Lin'an Bridge, the total length of the bridge (including the approach road) is about 200 meters, the width is 32.4 meters, and the height of the beam bottom is raised by at least 1.2 meters. In the bottleneck section of the cruise ship, Anping Old Town can be connected to Hele Square by water and land transportation, recreating the century-old magnificence of Anping Canal, which will become a highlight of Nanshi City.
