On February 27, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Elnur Mammadov met with the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Miryana Spolyarich Egger, as part of his visit to Geneva.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs told APA that during the meeting, cooperation between Azerbaijan and the ICRC, humanitarian issues in the post-conflict period in the region and the situation around the Lachin road were discussed.

Deputy Minister Elnur Mammadov spoke with satisfaction about the cooperation with the ICRC during the 75-day-long protests against illegal economic activity in Azerbaijan, where the Russian peacekeeping contingent is temporarily stationed, including the misuse of the Lachin road.

As a witness, the ICRC emphasized that the allegations made regarding the alleged closure of the Lachin road by Azerbaijan, the "blockade" and "humanitarian disaster" imposed on Armenian residents have no basis.

It was stated that the operation of the ICRC in the area and the fact that its vehicles use the road on a regular basis is proof of this.

It was brought to the attention of the deputy minister that the mode of movement of citizens, vehicles and cargo along the road remains unchanged, and that the Azerbaijani side is ready to provide every assistance to the local population directly or through the ICRC.

During the meeting, views were exchanged on other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
