The Czech Republic supports Ukraine's path to NATO, but there are several nuances.

This was announced by Czech President Petr Pavel.

“When we consider accepting new members, there are a few basic principles.

First, common values, long-term interests, technical compatibility and, obviously, political will from all sides.

From the point of view of technical compatibility, Ukraine has done its homework.

From the point of view of values and long-term strategic interests, again, we have full compatibility," he said.

"The only condition remaining is that there is no ongoing conflict or territorial dispute.

From the perspective of international law, as soon as Ukraine becomes a member of NATO, while still in conflict, the Alliance will become a party to that conflict.

One can only imagine how large-scale the conflict between NATO and Russia will be then, most likely, even with the use of nuclear weapons.

So we have to wait for the end of the war and the restoration of Ukraine's sovereignty.

And then the issue of membership in NATO will arise," the president added.

"And at this stage, I would support him, because I believe that Ukraine deserves to be considered as a new member of NATO - for compliance with standards, for the protection of values that are important to all of us.

And the Ukrainian military will probably be the most experienced of all, and would be a great advantage for NATO countries.

So, there are all the reasons why we should consider Ukraine's membership in NATO immediately after the war," he summarized.

We will remind, the head of the British government Rishi Sunak said that

Ukraine will join NATO in the future

, but the members of the Alliance should focus on today's situation to make sure that they have a plan to continue to support Ukrainian security.

As already reported, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the Alliance

sees signs that China is planning to send Russia weapons

for the war in Ukraine.
