China has not provided weapons for Russia to use in its war against Ukraine, and the US has made clear that such assistance would have serious consequences.

This was stated today by National Security Adviser at the White House, Jake Sullivan.

"Beijing will have to decide for itself how to proceed, whether to provide military aid. But if it goes that way, it will cost China dearly," Sullivan said in an interview with CNN.

China has not sent such aid, but has not ruled out doing so, Sullivan said in another interview with ABC television.

According to him, American representatives have warned the Chinese in closed-door talks about what these consequences could be.

For several days, the United States and its NATO allies have warned China against such actions and have publicly expressed concerns that Beijing is considering giving combat equipment to Russia, Reuters notes.

CIA Director William Burns also commented on the matter today.

"We are confident that the Chinese leadership is considering the provision of lethal equipment. We do not see a final decision made and we see no evidence of actual delivery of lethal equipment," Burns said on CBS.
