The streets of the Peruvian capital, Lima, have once again been filled with protesters who responded to the popular call for a national march directed against the Government of Dina Boluarte, which is blamed for the death of at least 60 people due to the repression of the force public.

"Dina, Police and Armed Forces. Murderers! Justice and reparation for the murdered and wounded", could be read on the banners that were seen during the protest, whose participants oppose impunity and amnesty for the military and police.

Hundreds of people gathered in the Campo de Marte, in the Jesús María district, to carry symbolic crosses and coffins and demand justice for those who fell during their fight for democracy.

Some protesters carried in their hands the photographs of the deceased and black ties to commemorate them.

"Killer dynasty!" they chanted.

The National Police responded to the march with tear gas and beating the demonstrators.

At least two people were injured: a man and a woman who ended up with significant head injuries.

The injured protester explained that he was attacked by an officer and that when he began to bleed heavily, another officer approached him, demanding that he immediately clean himself up and cover himself.

"Because if I don't do that, a complaint as a terrorist will come to me and they will prosecute me," explained the man.

"They started spraying more gas and I was already choking," he said, adding that he was finally able to be treated by paramedics.

The National Human Rights Coordinator (CNDDHH) of Peru also denounced the police violence used again against the protesters.

"The Peruvian Police attacked people who were demonstrating peacefully near the Comptroller's Office, downtown Lima. Several injuries were reported. The Peruvian Police cannot make unnecessary or excessive use of their force. Enough of police abuse!", The agency wrote on its official Twitter account.

"For the second time in less than a week in Miraflores (Lima) and for the umpteenth time since December in the country, the Police repress a peaceful march and impede the right to protest," said journalist Jacqueline Fowks.

More years in prison: Boluarte's move in the Peruvian Congress to discourage social protest

Data from the Peruvian Ombudsman's Office shows that there are more than fifty deaths produced in the framework of the protests, which began in the country at the beginning of December 2022.

The mobilizations began after the arrest and imprisonment of then-President Pedro Castillo, after his failed attempt to shut down Congress.

The Peruvian president was deposed and replaced in office by his vice president, Dina Boluarte.

Since then, thousands of citizens have taken to the streets to protest demanding the resignation of Boluarte, the closure of Congress, the drafting of a new Constitution and the immediate calling of early elections.
