, 184 specialists were arrested, who are suspected of involvement in the destruction of buildings during the earthquakes that occurred in early February.

According to the latest data, the number of victims of the natural phenomenon in Turkey and Syria has already exceeded 50 thousand people.

Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag said that law enforcement officers are investigating the involvement of more than 600 people in connection with the collapse of buildings.

He added that among those officially detained and taken into custody are 79 builders, 74 persons who are legally responsible for buildings, 13 real estate owners and 18 persons who carried out reconstruction of buildings.

"Overnight, the death toll from the earthquakes, the most powerful of which occurred on February 6,

rose to 44,128

in Turkey. Thus, the total number of deaths in Turkey and neighboring Syria exceeded 50,000. More than 160,000 houses, which contained 520,000 apartments , collapsed or were seriously damaged," the message reads.

After the devastating earthquakes, many Turks expressed outrage about the corruption in the country during construction.

In Gaziantep province, the mayor of Nurdagi district, who belongs to Turkish President Erdogan's ruling party, was among those arrested as part of the investigation.

Almost three weeks after the earthquake, there is still no final death toll in Turkey.

A firefighter helping to clear debris in the hard-hit city of Antakya said body parts were being found every day.
