The agency said it was the first attack of its kind in the rebel-held and jihadist-held area since a devastating earthquake in neighboring Turkey nearly three weeks ago that also claimed thousands of lives in Syria.

Rescuers operating in rebel areas said a drone struck two people on a motorcycle yesterday.

The identity of those killed is currently unclear.

So far, no one has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The Syrian government and its ally Russia have frequently carried out attacks in the area.

The United States has also carried out attacks there, but much less frequently and targeting jihadists, Reuters noted.

Over 5,800 people died in Syria as a result of the earthquake in Turkey on February 6.

Most of the casualties were in the rebel-held areas of the northwest.
