In India, two of these organs are now beating in the body of a man who underwent a heart transplant.

Doctors attached a smaller female heart to the patient's old heart.

Suresh, 45, suffered from heart failure back in May 2017 but was unable to undergo a routine one-time transplant due to high pulmonary pressure.

This is the first such operation in Asia.

He explained that there are five connections between two hearts.

"Combining them with a beating heart was the most difficult task, and that made this operation very difficult," Vajjanath said.

Suresh's own heart is only 10% functional

and is placed next to a new one that does most of the work.

According to the doctor, a healthy donor heart works together with a sick one so that they can successfully carry out metabolic processes as one.

It is currently unknown if Suresh's female heart caused any unusual side effects, although it would not be unusual.
