Conference "Bulgaria on the road to the euro", organized by the Ministry of Finance, will take place today in Sofia.

The purpose of the forum is to discuss the opportunities and challenges for Bulgaria to be a member of the eurozone, what the process of the upcoming introduction of the euro as a national currency entails, to discuss what has been done so far and what is to come, the announcement states.

The President Rumen Radev, acting Prime Minister Galab Donev, ministers, the Governor of the Bulgarian National Bank Dimitar Radev, the Executive Vice President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis, who is visiting our country, the Minister of Finance of Croatia Marko Primorac, representatives of European institutions and of the Bulgarian non-governmental sector.

Last week, Acting Minister of Finance Rositsa Velkova announced that Bulgaria will not enter the Eurozone from January 1, 2024, because our country is lagging behind in adopting the necessary legislation and does not meet the inflation criterion.

After talks with the executive vice-president of the European Commission, Valdis Dombrovskis, and with Pascal Donahue, president of the Eurogroup, it was decided that Bulgaria will not submit a convergent report at the end of February, because we have not fulfilled the commitments to join the ERM II Currency Mechanism and we have a mismatch in the inflation criterion.

It has been agreed that we will submit a convergent report when we fulfill our commitments and the bills related to our membership in the Eurozone are adopted, which the interim government will once again submit to the newly formed National Assembly, Minister Velkova said, reports "Darik".
