[Reporter Wu Junfeng/Tainan Report] Affected by the large temperature difference between day and night, the Tainan pineapples that are about to go on the market are severely cracked. The city government entrusted the Guanmiao District Farmers Association to purchase them on Wednesday and send them for processing to stabilize the market. Quality and price, as of today, the accumulated volume of goods collected is 28.3 tons.
Huang Guobin, Director of the Promotion Department of the Peasant Association of Guanmiao District, said that if the temperature difference between day and night exceeds 13 degrees, pineapple cracks will easily occur. The purchase and processing of fruit juice and dried fruit is to prevent the secondary products from flowing into the market and affecting the normal price.

Huang Guobin said that the cracked and damaged pineapples in the collection are all from the Guanmiao area, and they are all the "Golden Diamond" variety of Tainong No. 17. The early-harvest fruits are adjusted for the production period, and they have been affected by severe climate changes.
The main production period of Tainan Jinzuan pineapples is from March to June. Farmers who plant large areas will urge the flowers in batches to facilitate the arrangement of harvesting manpower and avoid short-term bursts of production that will impact the market.
The 3-day purchase operation was carried out at the Dazhou Consignment Yard, and the farmers arrived in truckloads one after another. Watching the staff of the farmers association count and load the baskets, the pineapples that I had worked so hard to grow would become raw fruit, and I was quite sad.
Huang Guobin pointed out that during preliminary investigations, this wave of early-harvested fruits artificially forced to flower due to the adjustment of the production period accounted for about 10% of the total output, and about 30% of them suffered crack damage; The severity is the first time in 20 years.
In the past, pineapple fruit cracking was common around the Spring Festival, but this year, there is still a relay of cold air masses in late February, which prolongs the time affected by the temperature difference between day and night, causing farmers to suffer more serious disasters.
