The country is a party to about 330 Commonwealth agreements, while many of them need revision, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration

Nika Papescu said on TV on Thursday, February 23.

This is reported by DW.

"There are agreements that either do not suit us, or no longer work, or are not applied, or are not for the benefit of Moldova," said the head of the Moldovan Foreign Ministry.

Moldova's goal is to join the EU

Papescu emphasized that Chisinau's goal is to join the EU and "all foreign policy goals and participation in international organizations will be subordinated to European integration."

"Based on this, the exit from the CIS agreements, which are incompatible with our goals, will continue.

An analysis of the necessity of many agreements signed during the republic's stay in the CIS is carried out.

This list will be published," he said.

According to Papescu, only on the lines of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Moldova will withdraw from approximately 20 agreements.

The head of the Moldovan Foreign Ministry noted that Chisinau is already acting in a very broad spectrum to limit Russia's attempts to destabilize the situation in the country.

Earlier, the speaker of the Moldovan parliament

Igor Grossu

said that after the end of the war in Ukraine, Chisinau will make a decision on the advisability of further membership in the CIS.

Now participation "in CIS events is impossible due to the situation in the region," he added.
