Austrian military expert Tom Cooper, who regularly analyzes the situation at the front and is known for his ironic remarks about the Russians, spoke about the Kremlin's forces and analyzed how possible a major Russian offensive is.

Cooper said this in an interview with ICTV's "Facts of the Week".

According to him, the "great offensive" of Russia, which everyone is talking about, has been

going on for at least a week, if not more.

"So I don't expect his

pace to pick up any more

. It's just the way it's done, so there's not one big push in one sector of the front line. But there have been attempts to push at least three different points along the front line. That's because , how the Russian armed forces function, how they act and how they can act in light of Ukrainian pressure on their logistics systems," the expert says.

Most of the Russians' advantage is that there are three zones where they can sustain such an offensive.

There are other areas where they cannot support it.

The role of the railway in the offensive of Russia

According to Cooper, the preparation of the Russian offensive largely depends on the railway network, because the Russian armed forces depend on the railways for their logistical base.

"From this it follows that they have

a good railway network

behind their front line in the area of

Kreminnaya, Bakhmut, Vugledar

, where actually it is not so good, but still better than in some other areas. And here they are trying to advance , but how successful they are is a separate story. They are already advancing and it has been going on for more than a week," the expert noted.

At the same time, there is no railway network in Ukraine, no railways, for example,

from southern Belarus to Kyiv

, and the railway network

north of Kharkiv

is also not very well developed.

Meanwhile, there are several railway networks that connect Russia with the east of Ukraine, in particular with Donbas through the well-known industrial fund of this part of Ukraine - industrial facilities, huge mines, etc.

"Many railways were built there even in Soviet times, which means that this is an area where the Russians can carry out offensive actions now. But they cannot do the same in other directions, they will not be able to do the same

with Sumy

and even more so with Kyiv." , says Cooper.

Will there be an offensive from Belarus?

According to the expert, the Russians send 12-15 thousand soldiers to Belarus, train them there, and then transfer them to the east of Ukraine.

New military personnel are being sent to Belarus to replace them.

"All that's happening is that they're using Belarus as

a staging ground for deterrence

, and then they're forming a new division and sending it to the East. This division was the Second Motorized Guards and Motorized Rifle Division, better known as Taman. What was that? Around January 25 she was taken out of Belarus and trained for about 3-4 weeks, and then was sent to Ukraine.

Meanwhile, it was replaced by troops who are going to form another division and which serve the secondary purpose of putting pressure on Ukraine and simulating some kind of preparation for a new offensive in the North.

In this way, the Russians keep a significant part of the Ukrainian Armed Forces engaged in guarding the border.

That's how it works," Cooper said.

Previously, Tom Cooper wrote in his report that the Russian army lacks personnel for a "super offensive".

He also stated that NATO has no idea how to end the war in Ukraine.

Cooper compared the war in Ukraine with a 100-story skyscraper, in which our country is somewhere on the 20th and is moving to the 21st.
