New Delhi :

The 26th round of talks took place on the border dispute between India and China.

Shirpan Ambule, Joint Secretary, East Asia Department in the Ministry of External Affairs arrived in Beijing with the Indian delegation.

Had talks with Chinese counterpart and Director of Border Affairs Hom Lian.

Ambule is the biggest official of the Ministry of External Affairs dealing with China.

This is the first time that the WMCC meeting has taken place face-to-face since the confrontation at the Line of Actual Control in August 2020.

Foreign affairs expert Uday Bhaskar said that we can definitely conclude from this meeting that although there has not been a break-through between India and China, there has not been a break-down either.

And that in itself is very important.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, in this meeting, both sides reviewed the current situation along the Line of Actual Control in the western sector.

There was talk about the withdrawal of the troops from the places where the withdrawal has been left, so that peace and the earlier situation can be restored on the border.

This is necessary to normalize relations between the two countries.

It was also agreed in both the countries that the 18th round of talks between the military commanders should be held soon.

Uday Bhaskar said that, if China and India want peace at this time, then the talks between military commanders are very positive, because this year is very important for India.

The Presidency of G20 is with India.

There was a confrontation in August 2020 near the Line of Actual Control between India and China.

Since then, continuous efforts are being made to maintain peace and status quo on the border according to the earlier agreements between the two countries.

Earlier, the 14th face-to-face meeting of WMCC was held in July 2019.

The subsequent 11 meetings were held through video conferencing.
