Iliana Malinova Yotova is a Bulgarian politician, the 5th Vice President of the Republic of Bulgaria, she was a guest in Koprivshtitsa at the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Nayden Gerov.

"Naiden Gerov was one of those God-chosen persons who have the ability to see into the future.

He dedicated his whole life to work not for himself, but for others around him and after him, with the cultural and economic rise of Bulgarians in mind," said Yotova in her greeting, quoted by the press service of the head of state.

She quotes Georgi Konstantinov, who describes Gerov as "a richly gifted, cultural person, a creator whose work has great historical significance and unstoppable moral greatness."

The vice president highlighted moments from the impressive biography of Nayden Gerov - one of the first Bulgarian poets, fiction writer, author of one of the first critical studies in Bulgarian literature, rich scientific and social work.

She recalled the personal memories of Nayden Gerov from July 20, 1851, when he managed to show the Greek bishop in Plovdiv that many and different disciplines can be studied in the Bulgarian language.

The vice president also emphasized the epoch-making work of Nayden Gerov - the dictionary, collected for 50 years, with 70 thousand words, 25 thousand sentences, 5 thousand parts of folk songs, 16 thousand proverbs and over 2 thousand names.

Yotova defined the dictionary as a written monument of the Bulgarian language and Bulgarian folk creativity.

The Vice President thanked the residents of Koprivshtitsa for preserving and passing on the memory of Bulgarian heroes to the generations.

"It's an indescribable feeling every time a person steps on the land of Koprivshten, which gathers the memory of the homeland.
