The countries of the European Union failed to agree today on a new package of sanctions against Russia, which should have entered into force on the first anniversary of the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on Friday, BTA reports, citing four diplomatic sources in Brussels.

"Several issues remain unresolved, including rubber and obligations to declare Russian assets in Europe," said one of the sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the confidential nature of the negotiations between EU member states.

Further talks between the EU countries' permanent representatives are scheduled for tomorrow afternoon, the sources said.

The proposed tenth package of sanctions includes trade restrictions amounting to more than 10 billion euros, according to the European Commission.
