[Central News Agency] Foreign Minister Wu Zhaoxie and National Security Council Secretary-General Gu Lixiong arrived at the Washington headquarters of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) today, and will hold closed-door talks with US officials on Taiwan and US security issues.

The Financial Times (The Financial Times) recently quoted people familiar with the matter as reporting that Wu Zhaoxie and Gu Lixiong will hold secret talks with US officials.

Such talks are part of a special diplomatic dialogue between the United States and Taiwan, known as "special channels," to avoid an angry reaction from China.

Wu Zhaoxie and Gu Lixiong arrived at the AIT Washington headquarters in Virginia at about 9:30 this morning, accompanied by Xiao Meiqin, the representative to the United States, and were preparing to hold a closed-door dialogue with the US high-level officials.

Daniel Kritenbrink, Assistant Secretary of State for Asia and the Pacific, Ely Ratner, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Indo-Pacific Affairs, and Sun Xiaoya, Director of the AIT Taipei Office also arrived at the scene.

The report pointed out that the main US participant was US Deputy National Security Adviser Jonathan Finer.

Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman will also join the meeting, one of the people said.
