The US prosecutor's office has reduced the charges against actor Alec Baldwin and Hanna Gutierrez-Reid, who was in charge of weapons on the set of the movie "Rust", DPA reported.

Baldwin and Reed were charged last month with involuntary manslaughter for the October 21, 2021, shooting of cameraman Halina Hutchins on set in Santa Fe.

The most serious of the charges threatened them with a sentence of 5 years in prison if they were found guilty.

According to the new charges, Baldwin could face a maximum of 18 months in prison, as the actor's lawyers determined that the previous indictment was based on new laws passed last year in the state of New Mexico that toughen the penalties for possessing and carrying firearms, but which do not have recoil.
