A group of Russian athletes crossed the Gulf of Yucatan sailing on kitesurfing boards.

The kitesurfers made the journey, of more than 230 kilometers, starting from a dock at Cape San Antonio in Cuba.

It took them 11 hours and 19 minutes to reach the coast of Mexico, at an average speed of 20.4 km/h.

The team consisted of: Konstantin Aksionov, Vladimir Popov, Evgueni Yevtushenko and Anton Yakovlev.

Following the feat, the Russians have already submitted an application to the Guinness Book of Records commission for registration.

“I would like to point out that no one had ever kited this route through the Yucatan Strait before.

For us the expedition was a real challenge, which the team overcame with dignity”, Popov commented.

"Every step we took was captured by three cameras that filmed continuously, and the entire route was recorded on seven GPS trackers," he added.
