"It was late night in Washington and early morning in Kyiv. Russian planes were in the air, tanks were crossing your border, you told me you heard explosions. I will never forget that. I asked you: what can I do for you? What can I help? And I remember what you told me: gather world leaders, ask them to help Ukraine," the US president said.

According to Biden, then many expected the capture of Kyiv and the fall of Ukraine.

"But in a year, Kyiv stands, Ukraine stands, democracy stands, America stands with you and the world stands with you," Biden added.
