Ukraine will certainly receive long-range ATACMS missiles and aviation, but so far the US is hesitating with such a decision due to fear of Putin's "red lines".

This was stated by the former US ambassador to Ukraine, director of the Eurasia Center at the Atlantic Council, John Herbst, in an exclusive interview with TSN.ua.

"Now we are talking about missiles with a range of 300 km. And if we sent you ATACMS and similar missiles, I think that you could successfully complete the counteroffensive and break the land corridor from the Russian Federation to Crimea. And if you destroyed the Kerch bridge, the tactical problem of securing Crimea would be huge. The political effect in Russia of such a defeat could be decisive. And such an offensive is in the interests of not only Ukraine, but also the USA and NATO," says Herbst.

According to the diplomat, the main reason for not sending such weapons and aircraft is the timidity of the administration in Washington.

"They always say no, but then change their mind. But I can't say for sure when they will change their mind. They are afraid of these Putin red lines, but they are also afraid of criticism from Congress. So I am sure that you will get ATACMS and fighter jets. But it could be in a month or a year and a half," John Herbst concluded.

It will be recalled that the former US ambassador to Ukraine, John Herbst, explained the conditions under which Putin can use nuclear weapons.

Why the West does not provide Ukraine with ATACMS long-range missiles

Earlier, Politico wrote that Washington cannot supply long-range ATACMS missiles to Ukraine, because the US allegedly has a shortage of shells.

Washington also fears that the Armed Forces will use these missiles for strikes on the territory of Russia.

The Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov assured that Ukraine will not attack the territory of the Russian Federation with these missiles.

The ex-commander of the US Army in Europe, retired General Ben Godges emphasized that Ukraine will have an indisputable advantage on the battlefield if it receives ATACMS missiles with a range of 300 km.
