Postponing the adoption of the euro is a management failure, but if a government that knows what it is doing appears, we can join the single currency at the beginning of 2024. This is what the financier and former Minister of Economy Nikolay Vasilev said in the program "120 minutes" on BTV

Nikolay Vassilev Vassilev is a Bulgarian politician from the National Movement "Simeon.

"I am disappointed that Bulgaria has itself abandoned the January 1, 2024 deadline for adopting the euro.

What happened, I think, is a combination of management failure and civilizational betrayal," he explained.

Vassilev explained that he was referring to the four official offices and the regular government of Kiril Petkov.

According to him, all these people have done everything possible to keep us from getting closer to the single European currency.

What's more, they even distanced Bulgaria from it for an indefinite period of time.

"I don't know why the caretaker finance minister had to say anything this week.

There are elections, and very soon.

I think that if a pro-Western reformist government appears that knows what it's doing, we can reach the deadline of January 1, 2024," Vassilev is emphatic.

Andrey Gyurov: Our entry into the Eurozone on January 1, 2024 could still happen.

The financier blamed the inflation on the "Petkov" cabinet.

According to him, the policies that the regular government pursued inflated prices.

"Nevertheless, the problem can be solved, because this year a gradual control of inflation is emerging," Vasilev specified.

He was adamant that if everything else in Bulgaria is in order and we have support from the Western partners, our country can still enter the Eurozone even with a small compromise.

For him, the problem with the budget deficit is more painful than the one with inflation.

"If the next government gets a deficit-free budget into parliament, it could get us into the eurozone.

However, if they intend to open a deficit of BGN 5-10 billion, we may not join the single European currency for another decade," Vassilev also noted.
