[Compilation of Wei Guojin/Taipei Report] Former British Prime Minister Truss said in an interview with Nihon Keizai Shimbun on the 17th that the Group of Seven (G7) and like-minded countries should work together to create a supply chain of strategically important resources such as rare earths.

"I think the free world is facing serious challenges from authoritarian regimes, especially China," she said.

She said that an economic organization similar to NATO is needed to counter China's Belt and Road infrastructure initiative; such an organization will center on the G7 and include different countries outside the G7 group, such as Australia.

"I want to see the G7 as an economic version of NATO, making sure we don't let freedom and democracy be undermined by China's economic policies," she stressed.
