Before Russia's projected spring offensive, Ukraine will likely receive less than a quarter of its modern battle tanks.

 The Times

writes about it .

According to the publication, Ukraine expects 320 Western tanks.

However, only 50 of them will reach the front line by the beginning of April.

Such an amount may not be enough to have a significant impact on hostilities.

It is noted that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said during the Munich Security Conference that his ministers will try to transfer more than 80 Leopard 2 tanks.

At the same time, Great Britain promised to provide Ukraine with 14 Challenger 2. Subsequently, Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands announced an agreement to modernize and send up to 178 old Leopard 1A5 tanks.

The publication writes that probably 80 Leopard 2 tanks will be divided into two battalions of 40 people each.

It is believed that the battalion, which is led by Poland and consists of slightly older models, including 14 from Polish warehouses, may be completed.

However, the more modern German-led battalion, consisting of 14 German Leopard 2A6 tanks, is still not half ready.

Canada is sending four Leopard 2 tanks, Portugal will deliver three in March, and Norway says it will deliver eight at some point.

It is known that Finland is also preparing to send several Leopard 2 tanks, but does not want to disclose their number.

In contrast, other countries that could provide Leopard 2 tanks, including Spain, Greece and Turkey, which are believed to have more than 300 each, are showing caution.

It is currently known that the American tanks may not arrive until next year.

Germany is outraged by such a hasty decision by the Allies, especially after Berlin came under immense international pressure to lead the initiative in supplying tanks.

"That's a question I have to ask others, especially those who pushed me so hard to act in a particular way," Scholz said.

Weapons for Ukraine

The commander of NATO's joint forces in Europe, General Christopher Cavoli, believes that providing Ukraine with advanced Western equipment, such as  F-16

fighter jets

, drones and long-range missiles, could help Kiev gain the upper hand in the skies and increase its offensive against Russia.

Meanwhile, the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Dmytro

 Kuleba

, said that during the meeting, the ministers of the "Big Seven" countries agreed on further support for Ukraine.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg explained that there is now an urgent need to provide military support to Ukraine, and

the supply of modern fighter jets

will take time.
