The Turkish authorities have decided to completely demolish the city of Nurdagi in the south of the country, which was destroyed by powerful

earthquakes. 

This is reported by the Turkish publication NTV.

Currently, wreckage analysis and search and rescue operations are underway in Nurdag.

The local authorities have declared that 100% of the city cannot be restored and will be demolished.

About 17,000 people lived there before the natural disaster.

"All our teams are working together. All our teams are making a huge contribution. Search and rescue operations are underway under the debris in the last 8 apartments in Nurdag," the authorities said.

As of February 18, the death toll from the earthquake in Turkey and Syria

has increased to 45,000 people, and about 264,000 apartments have been destroyed as a result of the tragedy.

Tens of thousands of residents of Turkey and Syria were left homeless.

Almost two weeks after the devastating earthquake, many have to spend the night in tents, factories, trains and greenhouses.

The Turkish government and dozens of organizations initiated a large-scale humanitarian program.

More than 5,400 shipping containers are being used as shelters, and more than 200,000 tents have been placed, the Independent reports.
