President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev is on a visit to the Federal Republic of Germany to participate in the 59th Munich Security Conference.

APA reports that on February 17, our head of state met Michael Harms, chief executive officer of the East German Business Association in Munich.


President Ilham Aliyev noted that good conditions have been created for the activities of German companies in Azerbaijan, that we have successful experience with German companies, and the existence of cooperative relations between our countries in various fields of industry, trade and economy.


The head of our state highly appreciated the expansion of trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Germany last year, and assessed the increase in mutual exports as a positive factor.


President Ilham Aliyev stated that Azerbaijan is a reliable partner of the European Union and that there are close relations between the European Union and our country.


Expressing his gratitude for the meeting, Michael Harms, chief executive officer of the Eastern Business Association of Germany, recalled with pleasure his last meeting with the head of state.

He said that despite the consequences caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a significant increase in the development of economic relations and trade turnover between Germany and Azerbaijan.


President Ilham Aliyev informed about the reforms carried out in Azerbaijan in various directions, including tax and customs, and emphasized that our country is an attractive investment place for foreign investors.

At the same time, the head of state informed about the steps taken towards the creation of a free trade zone in our country, and the increase in logistics and transport capabilities of Azerbaijan.

In this regard, he pointed out that there are wide opportunities for the activities of German companies in Azerbaijan, and invited the companies included in the Eastern Business Association of Germany to visit our country for the purpose of familiarization.


The President of Azerbaijan stated that there are ample opportunities for the representation of German companies in the implementation of restoration and construction works in the territories freed from occupation.


At the same time, the head of state noted that strategic priorities for the development of Azerbaijan's economy have been determined within the framework of "Azerbaijan 2030: National Priorities for socio-economic development", and said that there are wide opportunities for cooperation between our countries in this field, including with German companies.


President Ilham Aliyev also noted the projects implemented for the development of renewable energy in Azerbaijan, the partnership between the European Union and our country in the field of energy, and the importance of the strategic document signed last year between Azerbaijan and the European Union in the field of energy with the participation of the President of the European Commission Mrs. Ursula von der Leyen.

The head of state noted that our country has a large renewable energy potential both in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea and on land, he said that measures are being taken to develop this project within the framework of partnership with the European Union, and he emphasized that there are great opportunities for cooperation with German companies in this field.
