New Delhi:

The investigation into the Yeti Airlines crash in Nepal is pointing to a shocking blunder by one of the pilots.

Last month, 71 people had died in this accident.

Five Indians also died in the accident.

Yeti Airlines Flight 691, which took off from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu on January 15, crashed into the Seti River gorge between the old airport and the new airport in the resort town of Pokhara.

Initial accident reports suggest that instead of using the flap levers in the cockpit to configure the aircraft for landing, one of the pilots had opened the wrong lever.

This shuts off the power to the engine.

Less than a minute after doing so, the ATR-72 aircraft crashed.

After the propellers of both engines were moved to the winged position, the aircraft lost thrust and fell.

It has been said in the report that it is rare for the propellers of both the engines to come in winged position.

"When the Air Traffic Controller (ATC) gave clearance for landing... the pilot flying (PF) said twice that there was no power coming from the engine," the report said.

However, the engines of the aircraft were fully functional at the time of the accident.

The plane was being piloted by two captains.

One was in the process of familiarizing himself with flying the aircraft at Pokhara and the co-pilot was an instructor pilot.

The instructor pilot on board the aircraft was Anju Khatiwada, one of the airline's six women pilots.

Her husband, Deepak Pokharel, flew for the same airline and was killed in a crash in 2006.

This accident was captured live by some Indian passengers, who were killed in this accident.

There were 72 people on board the aircraft including four crew members.

Rescuers have found only 71 bodies, the missing passenger is presumed dead.

According to initial reports, the flight crew made two flights between Kathmandu and Pokhara in the morning.

The flight that crashed was the third in a row by the same crew.

Nepal has one of the worst aviation security records in the world.
