The European Union, Poland, Great Britain and France raised the issue of political repressions in Belarus during the meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council in Vienna, in particular, they discussed

Ales Bialiatski

and

Andrzej Pachobut

, information about this is available on the OSCE website.

"Almost every day in Belarus, there are new examples of harsh sentences at political trials that take place behind closed doors.

The repressions of the

Lukashenka

regime are not weakening, currently there are more than 1,440 political prisoners in the country," said the statement of the Permanent Representative of the European Union to the OSCE,

Rasa Ostrauskaite

.

She emphasized that persecution of persons belonging to national minorities, especially Poles, is unacceptable.

Ostrauskaite called the sentence handed down last week to Andrei Pachobut disgraceful.

She also drew attention to the trial of the Nobel laureate Ales Bialiatskyi and other human rights defenders of the "Viasna" center:

"The EU once again calls on Minsk to immediately and unconditionally release and rehabilitate all illegally detained persons, including Andrei Pachobut and all members of Viasna, to stop the violation of human rights and basic freedoms of the Belarusian people, to start a genuine and inclusive dialogue with democratic forces and to make possible a peaceful political transition to a democratic society," said Ostrauskaite.

Deirdre Brown

, Deputy Representative of Great Britain to the OSCE,

in her speech also focused on the Pachobut case:

"Pachobut is known for his reports on the anti-Polish nature of Lukashenka's policy and the treatment of the Polish minority by the Belarusian regime.

Approximately 300,000 Poles in Belarus witnessed the regime abolish their Polish-language schools and destroy their cemeteries and memorial sites.

Pachobut also informed about many other violations of human rights in Belarus, with which those present, unfortunately, are familiar," she said.

Brown emphasized that independent journalism is not a crime and reminded that 33 media representatives are in prison in Belarus.

"Journalists, media representatives, oppositionists and human rights defenders are condemned for the peaceful exercise of their human rights and basic freedoms, including freedom of expression and freedom of peaceful assembly and association.

We once again call on the Belarusian regime for their immediate and unconditional release," she said.

The representatives of Poland and France also expressed their support for Pachobut and Bialiatski, as evidenced by their Twitter accounts:

"Belarus will defeat totalitarianism.

And it will happen thanks to the courage of its people, including those imprisoned by the regime.

Abuse of power ends with the loss of power," wrote the representative of Poland at the OSCE,

Adam Holatinski

.
