A man surnamed Lin was driving a BMW station wagon and was driving through the hill-climbing section in Sanyi, Miaoli, National 1, when thick smoke suddenly came out from the engine room.

[Reporter Peng Jianli/Miaoli Report] A 39-year-old man surnamed Lin was driving a BMW station wagon this morning. He was heading north from Taichung along National Highway No. 1. Unexpectedly, thick smoke came out of the engine room when he was passing through a hill in Sanyi, Miaoli. Seeing this, Chen Nan hurried After driving off the Sanyi Interchange and stopping at the side of the road for inspection, it caught fire after about a minute or so. Fortunately, everyone in the car got out of the car in time and no one was injured.

The Longteng Police Station of the Miaoli Police Sub-bureau received a report at about 10:48 this morning that there was a car fire near the Sanyi Interchange, and immediately dispatched the police to deal with it. After the police arrived, they found a BMW station wagon on fire and contacted the fire department. Personnel went to extinguish the fire and implement traffic control and divert people and vehicles.

Initial investigation by the police and firefighters found that Mr. Lin was driving this morning from Taichung along National Highway No. 1. When he was going uphill on the Sanyi road, he found black smoke coming out of the engine hood. He immediately got off the Sanyi Interchange and stopped at the side of the road for inspection. The vehicle caught fire immediately, but fortunately both the driver and the passenger got out of the vehicle without injury.

The exact cause of the fire is yet to be clarified.

The Miaoli Police Department appeals to drivers not only to do a good job of vehicle maintenance, but also to check the condition of the vehicle before driving and operate the vehicle carefully to ensure the safety of themselves and other passers-by.
