New Delhi:

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) busted four fake call centers in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR).

The fraudulent call center allegedly engaged in defrauding US citizens by offering technical support.

Officials gave this information on Thursday.

The official said that the CBI recovered equipment, foreign currency and more than Rs three crore during searches at four places in Delhi-NCR.

He told that the matter is related to a CBI FIR on June 10 last year against Harish Kumar, Amit Kumar, Rakesh Kumar Athotra and Raj Kumari.

In the FIR, he was accused of cheating American citizens by controlling computers under the guise of technical assistance.

A CBI spokesperson said, “They allegedly used to target consumers in the US by making calls through the TextNow application using information obtained from their sources.

During this, they used to establish their control over the computer (system) by using remote access software like 'Any Desk' on the pretext of solving the problem.

American investigative agencies of CBI helped and they found that all four were running a mobile call center in which they used to move from one place to another.

The spokesperson said that the accused used to rent laptops and delete everything from the hard disk before returning them to the company.

He said that the agency searched the premises of the accused and recovered foreign currency and approximately Rs 3,09,64,100.

An official statement issued by the agency said that the CBI has also seized 15 mobile phones and seven laptops.

Along with this, it has been said in the statement that information related to 'remote access application', fake international calling numbers, documents related to US citizens, etc. are present in the laptop.

The statement said that during the raid, it found a bogus call center and that the accused/other persons were allegedly involved in online fraud with US citizens.
