The World Health Organization has stopped the second phase of the investigation into the origin

of the coronavirus

.

The reason for this decision is data collection problems in China.

This was reported by the representative of the organization Maria van Kerkhove, Nature magazine writes.

Despite this, the representative of the WHO emphasizes, the management of the organization is trying to convince Chinese officials to share data about the virus.

In particular, with the Chinese Center for Disease Control.

In turn, the publication writes that it took a long time to collect the necessary data on the origin of COVID-19.

But at the same time, scientists have enough information to prevent possible outbreaks of the virus in the future.

By the way, the first case of COVID was detected in the city of Wuhan at the end of 2019.

In general, the virus has spread to other countries.

Already on March 11, 2020, the WHO declared a coronavirus pandemic.

In the same year, the WHO called the leakage of COVID-19 from the laboratory "extremely unlikely".

Scientists concluded that the disease was probably transmitted to humans from bats.

Since the beginning of the COVID pandemic, almost 700 million people in the world have been diagnosed.

The number of deaths reached almost seven million.

We will remind, the WHO told about

a new strain of the Omicron XBB.1.5 coronavirus

that became dominant in the United States of America within a few weeks.
