"The data so far shows that we have entered an aftershock series.

After yesterday's strongest event, we have a series of 13 smaller magnitude aftershocks."

This is what Petya Trifonova, the deputy director of the National Institute of Geophysics, Geodesy and Geography at the BAS, told bTV after yesterday's earthquake in Romania, which was also felt in Bulgaria.

According to her, the earthquake was felt in our country, as its magnitude and depth are relatively large.

“Varies between 5.5 and 5.8 depending on the different definitions.

It is located at a depth of 40 km, which suggests the propagation of seismic waves over a greater distance.

A similar magnitude does not imply that there will be serious destruction," said Prof. Trifonova.

The tremor in Romania was similar in magnitude to the one in Pernik in 2012, she said.

A strong earthquake shook Romania, we also felt it in Bulgaria

"A seismic focus is being activated in Romania.

A local fault rupture occurred in this area, leading to the series of earthquakes.

This is a very local seismicity, unlike Turkey.

A very large fault structure was activated there and hundreds of aftershocks occurred after the main earthquake," added Petya Trifonova.

With the earthquakes in Turkey, a large part of the stored energy has been released.

"Certainly, the earthquake in Turkey has loaded structures along the neighboring fault, or another section of this fault, where at some point critical stresses will again be reached and rupture will occur," said Prof. Trifonova.

According to her,

after the earthquake in our southern neighbor, the seismic situation in Bulgaria is normal
