Russia's navy has begun deploying nuclear-armed warships to the Baltic Sea for the first time in 30 years.

This was reported by the intelligence services of Norway, from where they added that this number also includes submarines.

In all likelihood, these are ships from the Northern Fleet, which during the Cold War patrolled the region with nuclear weapons to demonstrate the weapons potential of the former Soviet Union.

Until now, modern Russia is not known to have resorted to this type of deployment of a combat arsenal.

According to the Scandinavian country's intelligence, Moscow is "deliberately" stoking fears of a possible nuclear attack, saying it would be ready to use it if threatened by outside powers, especially those linked to the NATO bloc of which Norway is a part.

According to the latest data, the Russian Federation is the country that has the largest arsenal of nuclear weapons - nearly 6,000 nuclear warheads.

Together with the United States, the two countries possess about 90% of the world's atomic potential, capable of destroying the planet several times over, notes
