The administration of the Suez Canal is increasing the additional fees for the passage of loaded and empty oil tankers in both directions of the sea route from April 1 of this year, the news site "Sada el Balad" reported.

Additional fees for vessels loaded with petroleum products become 25 percent of the normal fees, and for empty oil tankers - 15 percent.

The Administration states that the additional fees are temporary and may be changed or removed as the market changes.

Reasons for the price increase are the remarkable growth in global trade and freight, as well as development and improvements along the canal.
