A 1-year-old Bulgarian boy and his mother, who has Syrian citizenship, were left homeless after the strong earthquake in Syria.

"Regarding the earthquake in Syria and the city of Latakia, at the moment we can report one person with Bulgarian citizenship - a 1-year-old child, the child's mother is fine and they are together in their relatives, the child's father is in Germany at the moment. The apartment the family lived in has been completely destroyed. Our embassy in Damascus has expressed readiness for consular protection, but at this stage they have not expressed a need for it," he said.

"I express my sincerest condolences to the relatives of those who died in Turkey and Syria, and I wish from the bottom of my heart a speedy recovery for all those injured. At the moment, our embassy in Ankara has not received any information about new cases of dead or injured Bulgarian citizens. Still there is no information about the Bulgarian citizen and her family, who were searched under the ruins of a building where they lived in the city of Antakya," he announced.

Our embassy in Ankara has sent a request to the Ministry of Health in Turkey for information regarding the possible presence of injured Bulgarian citizens housed in health facilities in the country.

A permanent presence of diplomats from the embassy was ensured in the area of ​​the disaster to assist the Bulgarian rescue teams.

From the first day of the earthquake to the present, specialized Bulgarian teams under the Main Directorate "Fire Safety and Protection of the Population" of the Ministry of the Interior, PSS and BCH, the Metropolitan Municipality, the Ministry of Defense and two other groups of volunteers are carrying out rescue operations.

On February 11, an Air Force flight replaced part of the rescue teams, as well as more humanitarian aid.

Currently, about 130 people from our country are continuing the rescue activities on the territory of Turkey, Kojabashev reported.

 An organization has been set up in the consular office of our embassy in Ankara for the emergency reception of applications for travel documents of Bulgarian citizens affected by the earthquake to evacuate to Bulgaria.

At the request of the Turkish Embassy in Skopje, our office there has organized a reception for type C applications submitted by Turkish citizens for transit through Bulgaria, the Deputy Minister pointed out.

Bulgaria is ready to send aid to Syria as soon as a safe corridor is guaranteed.
