The Sofia District Prosecutor's Office (SRP) begins an investigation following a report filed by the Capital Municipality in connection with the felling of trees in the Boris Garden in Sofia.

This was announced by the press center of SRP.

The report states that citizens have complained to the municipality about the cutting down of trees and the entry of heavy machinery into the north-eastern part bordering the observatory and the buildings of the "Maria Luiza" bathhouse on the territory of the Boris Garden.

A file was immediately opened in the SRP and an investigation into the case was started, which was assigned to the Metropolitan Directorate of Internal Affairs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Trees were cut down in the heart of the Boris Garden absolutely illegally, without permission, Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova told the Sofia Municipal Council at its meeting on Thursday last week.

The mayor of the capital district "Sredets" Traicho Traikov and a representative of the company "Park Maria Luisa" were also heard by the municipal councilors.

Afterwards, in front of journalists, Traicho Traikov called what happened "impertinence" and described the felling as a "deliberate act".

Todor Todorov, representative of the company that is under contract to restore the "Maria Luisa" bathhouse, said that the removal of live trees was a mistake and the company is yet to verify how and why this happened.
