Starting this Monday, sessions will take place in the La Comandancia room of the Morro-Cabaña Historical Complex, as part of the activities carried out by the XXXI International Book Fair of Havana, a meeting of members of the Regional Center for the Promotion of Books in Latin America and the Caribbean (Cerlalc).

The event opened its doors with the panel "Contribution of the Book and Reading Observatories in measuring the impact of public policies".

The opening words of the meeting "Public Policies in Favor of Reading" were given by the director of the Cuban Book and Reading Observatory, Enrique Pérez Díaz,

who said that these organizations represent a measurement and monitoring instrument for the development of policies public. 

Following this same line, the manager of Copyright of Cerlalc, Fredy Forero, stated that "these organizations also serve to detect whether the implemented strategies are effective or not."

“The Cuban Book and Reading Observatory, created in 2008 as a result of the interaction between Cerlalc and our country, constitutes one of the main factors when it comes to correctly managing public policies within the literary field. added Perez Diaz.

During the panel, the support received was recognized, not only by international associations, but also by internal institutions, such as the National Library of Cuba, the Ministry of Education and the Rubén Martínez Villena bookstore.

In the same way, Pérez Díaz declared that the surveys carried out during this XXXI International Book Fair of Havana showed that among the literature most in demand by the reading public are some works by the Colombian writer Gabriel García Márquez and self-help books such as El

, by Rhonda Byrne.

The book and reading observatories function as a system capable of providing analysis and evaluation in favor of the promotion of books and literature in various countries.
