The apocalyptic earthquakes in Turkey and Syria have claimed the lives of nearly 25,000 people, with fewer and fewer victims being found alive under the rubble five days after the disaster, DPA reported.

In Turkey alone, at least 20,665 people have died and 80,088 others have been injured by the two strong earthquakes that shook the region on Monday, according to new figures released this morning.

Another 3,553 people have been killed and 5,276 injured in neighboring Syria, where international aid has been slow to arrive.

The total number of dead is 24,218 people, DPA states.

Turkey's disaster agency AFAD said more than 90,000 people had been evacuated from the quake-ravaged region, which spans 10 Turkish provinces.

There are over 166,000 rescue team members and volunteers working, including more than 8,000 foreign staff.

Three people were rescued from the rubble in Syria 110 hours after the earthquake

Turkish public broadcaster TRT reported that after 125 hours, rescue teams pulled a person alive from the ruins of a neighborhood in Antakya.

According to data from the Syrian Red Crescent, at least four people were pulled alive from the rubble in the Syrian city of Jabel on Friday evening, BTA adds.
